For over 100 years, dentists have been using silver-mercury amalgam fillings to restore decayed or broken teeth. Now there are many alternatives in addition to amalgam restorations.  Tooth colored composite restorations create one visit tooth colored fillings.  Reinforced porcelain restorations are tooth colored and more durable and stain resistant.  Gold restorations are highly durable and have an outstanding longevity, and may be the choice in an esthetically uncritical area.

 

Bonded resins and porcelain can change the shape, color, alignment, and length of teeth.  Crowns can alter the shape, color, alignment, and length of teeth while reinforcing the tooth against further breakage.
